Graduate Teaching Assistants
With the purposes of supporting graduate education and recruiting talented graduate students, the Department of Kinesiology offers a limited number of graduate teaching assistant positions each year. The number of positions available are dependent on available funding each academic year. As a result, teaching assistant positions are awarded on a competitive basis. Neither admission to the Graduate School nor enrollment in a Master's program in the Department of Kinesiology guarantee selection.
Activities required of all Graduate Teaching Assistants include teaching two (2) undergraduate courses per quarter, maintaining office hours for 10 hours per week, and attending an annual Graduate Teaching Assistant meeting.
Graduate Teaching Assistants candidates must have an earned undergraduate degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field. Successful candidates must have a GPA ≥ 3.0 and have the ability to teach a variety of undergraduate activity or laboratory courses.
Graduate Teaching Assistants earn $8000/9 months ($888.88/month) to teach 2 classes/quarter or $12,000/9 months ($1,333.33/month) to teach 3 classes/quarter and receive out-of-state tuition waived. Depending on how many graduate classes one takes, Louisiana Tech University costs about $1000-1600/quarter.
All Graduate Teaching Assistants must be admitted to the Louisiana Tech University Graduate School. The application process is online and can be found at (http://www.latech.edu/graduate_school/admissions/index.php). Interested individuals can contact Dr. David Szymanski for additional information.
