COLLEGE OF EDUCATION & HUMAN SCIENCES

Graduate Internship (KINE 515)

The graduate internship allows students the opportunity to use the knowledge, skills, and dispositions learned in the classroom in an applied environment of their choosing. The consent of the internship site supervisor and department Graduate Internship Coordinator is necessary. The internship requires 220 clock hours for 6 semester hours credit and 110 clock hours for 3 semesters hours credit in practical experiences in approved programs with department approved supervisor. The purpose of this course is to provide the student with practical experience in relating theory to practice in a setting under close supervision from professionals in the field and the University.

Graduate students planning to complete an internship must complete the Internship Application Form and receive consent from the Graduate Internship Coordinator and site supervisor by the first Friday of the quarter prior to the quarter they plan to enroll in KINE 515 (Internship). The internship site should be directly relevant to the student’s graduate concentration and professional goals (Sport and Exercise Psychology or Sport Performance). The Internship Application Form must be submitted to the Department of Kinesiology main office by 5:00 pm on the day of the deadline. For example, students planning to enroll in an internship in Spring quarter must submit the internship application form to the main office by the first Friday of the Winter quarter. If the internship site is new, additional internship contract forms must be completed between the internship site and Louisiana Tech University.

All graduate students completing an internship must hold current CPR certification and Professional Liability Insurance. If you do not have either, please see the Graduate Internship Coordinator for details on how to obtain these required items.

Throughout the internship experience, internship site supervisors will complete reports to provide feedback on student performance. These forms are made available to currently enrolled interns on the course Canvas page.

Students completing the internship option for their culminating experience will also need to enroll in & pass KINE 585: Comprehensive Examination. Please see the Comprehensive Examination section for more information.

Please contact the Graduate Internship Coordinator for the Department of Kinesiology, Dr. Junhai Xu (jxu@latech.edu), with any questions regarding the internship process.
