Boyd earns state “Professional of the Year” award
Rhonda Boyd, instructor of kinesiology and director of adult fitness in the College of Education at Louisiana Tech University, has been selected as the “College/University Health Education Professional of the Year” from the Louisiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (LAHPERD).
Boyd will be formally presented with the award at the state association’s convention in Baton Rouge on Friday, November 8.
As stated in the award letter, the recipient must demonstrate a “position of leadership in developing and implementing or directing/coordinating effective health education/promotion programs; meritorious service through involvement at local, state, district, or national level or at the school or community level; service within an AAHPERD health instructor (organization) or other health professional organizations at the state, district, or national level as an officer or committee member; and evidence of leadership and service to the profession through three of the following: teaching, publications, presentations, funded research or programs, special projects, or health-related activities.”
“This is a great recognition for Rhonda and her contributions to our profession,” said Lanie Dornier, endowed professor and chairman of the department of kinesiology at Louisiana Tech.
Boyd was one of two Tech faculty members recognized recently for their teaching and research excellence and their valuable contributions to the success of the students and the University. At Tech’s annual fall faculty and staff meeting in early September, Boyd received the 2013-2014 Virgil Orr Junior Faculty Award, and Dr. David Szymanski, associate professor of kinesiology and strength and conditioning coach for Louisiana Tech baseball, received the 2013-2014 University Senate Chair Award.
