Romer’s research project, which was partially funded by Adidas footwear, focuses on understanding the effects of lower extremity proprioceptive information in altering the onset of muscle activity during various levels of walking. “This was an early stage project with potential to positively impact athletic footwear design,” said Romer. “Furthermore, there is also considerable clinical interest in this area through improvements of balance and gait mechanics in older adults with a history of falls.” The International Running Biomechanics Symposium is hosted by the University of Calgary and will bring together leading researchers in running related research, business, journalism, and coaching. It provides a unique outlet for the exchange of information and assisting in the stimulation of novel research and product development. Romer earned a bachelor’s degree in applied physiology and kinesiology from the University of Florida, a master’s degree in sports medicine the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and a doctorate in kinesiology from Auburn University. He specializes in biomechanics and is a member of Louisiana Tech’s Center for Biomedical Engineering & Rehabilitation Science. Romer’s research focus is on understanding gait variability and occupational lifting mechanics.
