Outreach Initiatives

RARC Northeast Louisiana

The National Integrated Cyber Education Research Center (NICERC) sponsors the Regional Autonomous Robotics Circuit (RARC) in Northeast Louisiana, a series of three competitions for students in grades 2-12. The competitions build upon one another and allow students to showcase their STEM and cyber skills by competing against other students in their division in a series of integrated challenges. The hands-on challenges serve a dual purpose: introduce STEM concepts and their many applications and reinforce STEM fundamentals learned in the classroom.

Dogs with a Cause

Dogs with A Cause began in 2016 as a collaboration between the Louisiana Tech Men’s Basketball Team and the College of Education and Human Sciences Clinical Residency Center. Through this character education program, athletes are “coached” by clinical residents as they prepare to team teach in their adopted classrooms. This program brings prestige to the teaching profession, engages teaching residents in curriculum design, provides community service opportunities for athletes, and most importantly, makes a difference in the lives of each child touched by this program.

Children’s Choice

The Clinical Residency Center promotes children’s literacy as one of five review sites for the Children’s Choice Book Awards. A joint project of the Children’s Book Council (CBC) and the International Literacy Association (ILA), Children’s Choices Book Awards allows students from across the United States to review nearly 1,000 books per year and vote on which ones are their favorites. Those books that students enjoy most are included on the annual Children’s Choices reading lists.

Science Olympiad

Louisiana Tech hosts the regional Science Olympiad for junior-high and high-school students in the area. Founded in 1984, Science Olympiad is one of the premier science competitions in the nation, providing rigorous, standards-based challenges to nearly 8,000 teams in all 50 states. About 450 tournaments are held each year on college campuses.

Region II Science and Engineering Fair

Louisiana Tech plays host each year to the Region II Science and Engineering Fair. Students compete to advance from their school-level fairs to a regional fair like the one at Tech, and then to the Louisiana Statewide event (Junior and Senior Levels only).
